Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Friday said Hyderabad loses over Rs 1 crore every day due to cyber frauds and called for a collective reaction by law enforcement, banks, telecom carriers and residents to stem the rising tide of digital crimes.
Speaking at the National Round Table on Digital Trust and Citizen Protection held by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), Sajjanar said cybercriminals thrive on mule bank accounts and ghost SIM cards and called upon stakeholders to join hands to remove them.He said cybercrime is one of the most organised types of crime in the world and highlighted the need of reporting immediately to recover stolen money.
Victims should contact the 1930 National Cyber Crime Helpline at the earliest when they uncover fraud, calling it the “golden hour” for freezing stolen money, he said.
Sajjanar further stressed that public knowledge is the best weapon against cyber fraud and urged the folks to be alert and not be trapped in online frauds.
The roundtable, themed “Protecting Citizens from Fear-driven and Greed-driven Digital Frauds”, saw senior police officials, banking and telecom experts, cyber-security professionals, legal experts, policy makers and industry leaders discuss measures to strengthen digital trust and citizen protection.
