With help from central agencies and the Indian Embassy in Myanmar, Karnataka Cyber Command rescued two youths from a Chinese-run scam compound in Myanmar. Officials warned against cybercrime and human trafficking-related overseas job scams.

Bengaluru:Karnataka Cyber Command, in collaboration with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, the Enforcement Directorate, and the Embassy of India in Myanmar, released two Indian nationals from a Chinese-operated scam compound in Myanmar on Wednesday.

They said both Karnataka youths recently returned home safely.

According to police, the Karnataka Cyber Command quickly investigated after receiving information from a Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate.

Inter-agency coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and continuous engagement with Indian Embassy officials in Myanmar enabled the rescue in record time, said Karnataka Cyber Command Director General of Police Pranab Mohanty.

The action shows how real-time intelligence sharing and diplomatic-law enforcement collaboration protect Indian people overseas, it added.

The Myanmar border complex is one of numerous Chinese syndicates' facilities. It alleged these centers coerce trafficked people into global online romance scams and investment (“pig-butchering”) schemes.

Police claimed prompt action saved the two young men's lives and futures.

The Karnataka Cyber Command advises young people to be wary of Southeast Asian job offers, especially those offering high salaries for “IT”, “customer support”, “data entry”, or “online marketing” jobs that require travel to Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, or Cambodia.
