On Monday, investigators detained a guy and his suspected lover for killing and dumping the former's wife in the Gomti river.

Police identified the suspects as Umendra Pratap Singh (31) and his lover Aarti Verma (31).

Umendra, a Rahimabad police station resident, filed an official complaint about his wife Anjali Singh's abduction on July 30-31.

The complaint prompted a missing person report and search. The Gomti river at Itaunja police station yielded an unidentified woman's body on July 31. Family relatives recognized the dead as Anjali.

After the deceased's brother complained of the husband's foul play, Rahimabad police station launched a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), 103(1) (murder), and 238 (tampering with evidence, giving false information).

August 1 night saw Umendra Pratap Singh captured near Adaura Mod.

Umendra confessed that his wife Anjali had protested to his connection with Aarti Verma multiple times during interrogation.

Umendra and Aarti smothered and strangled Anjali on July 30-31 to remove the obstacle. People threw the corpse in Gomti river.

To show that she had departed, Umendra handed Aarti the deceased's jewelry from their house.

The next day, he reported missing at Rahimabad Police Station.

Police detained Aarti Verma and seized 32 pieces of the deceased's jewelry, two mobile phones, and the Swift Dzire automobile used to take the corpse to the river after Umendra's confession.
