The Hyderabad cyber crime police have initiated legal action against the administrators of a Facebook page following allegations of sharing defamatory, AI-manipulated content. The posts in question targeted Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu and his spouse, Shailaja Ramaiyer, who serves as the Principal Secretary of the Endowments Department.
Key Details of the Incident
The Complaint: A formal complaint was filed by an advocate named Shashi Bushan Kashe against the controllers of the Facebook page titled ‘BRS Party Manthani’.
The Allegations: The petitioner stated that the social media page was used to distribute highly objectionable visuals, doctored photographs, abusive language, and malicious commentary. The content was reportedly designed to damage the public reputation and dignity of the Minister and his wife.
Legal Action: Following the complaint, the cyber crime unit registered a case under Sections 336(4), 353(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
An official investigation into the matter is currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for operating the page.
