The Telangana High Court ordered the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police to investigate Malakpet police officers' unlawful detention and custodial abuse. Court ordered petitioner's CCTV video and medical evidence examined.
Hyderabad: Justice J. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court ordered the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police to investigate Malakpet Police Station police allegations of illegal detention and custodial torture using CCTV footage and medical evidence on Thursday. The directive came during a writ petition saying that the petitioner was wrongfully arrested by police about 7 p.m. on July 17 without being told of the circumstances.
After admitting to an offense and withdrawing a writ petition, the petitioner claimed custodial abuse. His Magistrate appearance came on July 18, after the 24-hour period. Besides compensation, the petitioner demanded departmental action against the Station House Officer, Sub-Inspector, and other police officers. July 21 saw a thorough representation to the Director General of Police and the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police.
In line with the legislation, the Assistant Government Pleader for Home would review the representation. After hearing both sides, Justice Madhavi Devi noted that the police had received the representation and instructed the Commissioner of Police to review the Malakpet Police Station CCTV video from 6.30 p.m. on July 17 to 6.30 p.m. on July 18. The court also ordered the Commissioner to consider the petitioner's medical reports and photos of purported injuries in the writ petition.
