A lot of tourists came to Adi Kailash over the weekend hoping to see beautiful views of snow-covered mountains, but their plans fell through when a lot of cars and other vehicles quickly blocked the road.

Heavy snowfall in the area caused the "white traffic jam," which could be seen at an elevation of 14,500 feet. On the weekend, there were a lot more pilgrims and vehicles, and some tourists got stuck for hours.

Videos of the long line of cars have gone popular on social media. One person who posted the video said that the traffic jam goes on for 1.5 to 2 kilometers because of the heavy snow.

Heavy snow fell in high-altitude parts of Uttarakhand during the last week of September, which brought a lot of people to the area. Three to four feet of snow have fallen in the last few days in the Adi Kailash region. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has been working hard to clear the roads so that traffic can move.

The road to the mountain, on the other hand, is very narrow now that the snow on both sides hasn't been cleared away fully.

This, along with the large number of tourists, has caused the huge traffic jam. In recent years, tourists have been going beyond Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Hemkund Sahib, which are all well-known places for pilgrimages. More and more people are interested in places like Adi Kailash, Om Parvat, and Munsiyari.

In the past few years, more than three times as many travelers have gone to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. Newest numbers show that 10,079 tourists and travelers went to Adi Kailash in 2023, 29,423 in 2024, and 31,558 in 2025. More than all of these people have been to Adi Kailash this year—61,950 tourists and pilgrims have already been there.

Still, the road conditions have been tough. Elgad, Kulagad, S-Bend, and Malghat are just a few of the sensitive areas that are already very narrow. Things have gotten even harder since it snowed a lot. Whenever a car stops, a long line forms behind it right away.

There are still problems with the weather in the Himalayas, and tourists are being told to be careful.
