Police have detained four persons and seized 98 sovereigns of gold jewelry in connection with the theft at the residence of YouTuber Madhumitha in Kanyakumari. Seven special teams analyzed 160 CCTV cameras and 32 call details data.

The police have cracked the theft at the house of a renowned YouTuber in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu and recovered 98 sovereigns of gold jewelry weighing roughly 784 kg. Four people were arrested in connection with the case.

The incident occurred at the YouTuber’s residence at VIP Garden, Thammathukonam under Rajakkamangalam police station boundaries in Kanyakumari district. Police said the suspects entered the property from the back door and looted gold jewelry from a room upstairs. Superintendent of Police, Kanyakumari district, Anshul Nagar, said seven special police teams have been created to probe the issue. As part of their inquiry the teams reviewed CCTV footage and call detail data.

YouTuber, hubby out of town during theft
Vinoth Kumar, son of Selvaraj, a resident of VIP Garden in Thammathukonam, is married to YouTuber Madhumitha. Several films published by Madhumitha, who has a huge following on YouTube, on social media had brought attention to the property.

Madhumitha and her husband had gone to Tirunelveli in the evening of 24th September. When they arrived home about midnight they found the back entrance of the house forced open. They went up to the top floor of the home and found that the jewels kept there were gone. The couple promptly lodged a complaint with Rajakkamangalam police station.

A case was registered under sections 331(3), 331(4) and 305(a) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police investigate 160 CCTV cameras, 32 call logs
Seven special teams were created in the wake of the complaint under the direction of Kanyakumari sub-division Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash and supervision of Rajakkamangalam police inspector. The crews went through CCTV footage at the crime scene and the surroundings around. In all, 160 CCTV cameras along the path from the crime scene to Srivaikuntam were analyzed.

Police also looked into 32 call detail records related to the investigation. As a consequence of the investigation, 30-year-old Isakki Pandi was detained from Srivaikuntam area. Murugan, 28, of Mukkoodal area, was also named as a suspect by police.

Suspects monitored with technical monitoring
A special police squad then tracked the movement of the group with the help of sophisticated monitoring as they moved from Srivaikuntam to Kanyakumari. The team had alerted Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kanyakumari, about the incident and vehicle checks were undertaken under his supervision at Erumbukadu.

Two individuals have been arrested during the search. Police later detained Murugesan, 30, of Alangulam and Thangapandi, 39, based on their claims. Police recovered the 98-sovereign gold jewelry from the culprit.

The investigation continues
Police said more arrests are anticipated in connection with the case. The inquiry continues to investigate whether others may have been involved in the heist.

The investigation entailed detailed CCTV analysis, review of call detail data and technical surveillance before the offenders were located and apprehended.
