Arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on charges of trying to recruit young people through encrypted social media platforms and spreading the ideology of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), 19-year-old Mohammad Nabeel from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh was apprehended.



Azamgarh district resident Mohammad Nabeel, 19, of Chitara village, Mahmoodpur (Didarganj police station area), is one of the accused. Nabeel is the son of Mohammad Danish.
The UP ATS police station in Lucknow has registered Case Crime No. 14/2026 in accordance with Sections 152 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, as well as Sections 18 and 38 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, in order to press legal charges.

*Ideology & Radicalization:** Inspired by Anwar al-Awlaki, an operative of Al-Qaeda, actively disseminated propaganda and extremist literature associated with Al-Qaeda in an effort to radicalize and attract members of the online community.
Coded WhatsApp Groups: Established a WhatsApp group with an Arabic name, addressing its members as mujahids, and facilitating encrypted communication between them. On a global scale, he was also involved with groups like "Flames of War," which had members from all over the world, including Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Jammu & Kashmir, and others.

Discussions and materials pertaining to the acquisition and preparation of explosive ingredients were discovered, as were communications that suggested intentions to travel to Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Turkey for extremist training.
