Hyderabad: Following a strict prohibition on raw egg-based mayonnaise, the Telangana Food Safety Department launched a comprehensive statewide inspection drive, leading to the destruction of 10 kg of the banned condiment.

The enforcement action is part of an ongoing one-year ban initiated by the state government on October 30, 2025. Under this directive, manufacturing, storing, or selling mayonnaise made from raw eggs is completely prohibited across Telangana to safeguard public health.

Inspection Highlights and Violations

During the recent enforcement sweep, authorities monitored numerous dining establishments to ensure compliance:

  • Total Inspections: 131 food establishments were audited statewide.

  • Violators Identified: 5 eateries were caught actively disregarding the ban.

  • Contraband Seized: 10 kg of raw egg and broken-egg mayonnaise was confiscated and immediately destroyed on-site.

  • Legal Action: The department has officially launched adjudication proceedings against the non-compliant businesses.

The Health Risks Involved

Food safety officials emphasized that the restriction is a vital measure for consumer safety. Raw egg mayonnaise has been linked to a spike in local food poisoning incidents. When left unpasteurized or kept in substandard storage conditions, the sauce becomes a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria like Salmonella.
