Her mother and younger brother found the 16-year-old's death in a pool of blood in their residence on August 1.

Assam's Hailakandi district has detained five teens for the savage rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in her home while her mother and younger brother were abroad for her grandmother's burial.

After returning after the bhoj ceremony on August 1, her mother and younger brother found the 16-year-old's death in a pool of blood in their residence. Police stated a brick killed her. Police found a dal-mashing tool in her private areas.

Hailakandi SSP Amitav Sinha claimed the victim's mother recognized the tool from her kitchen. Her brother works outside the state, and her father died some years ago.

The preliminary inquiry found no forced entry, suggesting a friend did it. Tuesday, we arrested three people for this. We nabbed two more early Wednesday morning. All of these defendants are teens, and one is 16. She knew all the suspects, said SSP Sinha.

Sinha stated that the police discovered that the victim was dating an 18-year-old apprehended on Tuesday.
One defendant said that she was in a relationship with another and that the guys got together to ‘teach her a lesson’ because she kept in touch. That nite, she told her lover her mother and brother were away. He stated he went to the house with two pals and the other man with one buddy to assault her since she was alone.

He claimed the accused drove e-rickshaws and autorickshaws when the victim was a student.

Accused of raping a kid, homicide, and POCSO Act violations. A police Special Investigation Team and forensic teams are investigating the situation.

Regional indignation led to local protests. Gaurav Gogoi, Assam Congress president, called the act “deeply disturbing and a curse on our society”.
