New Delhi: Despite heavy rain and unprecedented security arrangements across central Delhi, thousands of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar on Monday morning for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)'s proposed “Sansad Chalo” march demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities.

Delhi Police closed several roads to Parliament, barricaded the Jantar Mantar protest site from all sides, and imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Janpath, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, and Seva Teerth metro stations remained closed for security

Police had declared the march had no license and cautioned against unlawful processions to Parliament.

Protesters filled Jantar Mantar all morning despite the limitations. The CJP released photos and videos of big protest crowds on social media, saying, “Heavy rains and massive security, but nothing will stop the cockroaches today.” CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke posted a Constitution portrait with the caption “Long live the Constitution.” Many metro stations were closed and demonstrators were unable to reach Jantar Mantar, thus the CJP urged supporters to remain calm.

“Be calm wherever you are. When halted, stay calm and peaceful. Peace and kindness are the only ways to prevail, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das told demonstrators.

The mobilization comes as activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police on Friday, reiterated that his indefinite hunger strike would continue beyond Monday's march unless the government took responsibility for education system failures or political leaders promised to address the issue during Parliament's Monsoon Session.

Wangchuk said in a hospital letter that his fast would end only if the government took responsibility for document leaks and other education system failings or if MPs and leaders of other political parties promised to address the matter in Parliament.

He maintained his claim of “illegal detention” at Safdarjung Hospital.

Three AISA activists, Neha, Manish, and Aameen, ended their 23-day hunger strike earlier in the day after a delegation of parliamentarians, civil society members, and eminent personalities urged them to shift the struggle from a hunger strike to Parliament and public campaigns, promising to pursue their demands during the Monsoon Session.
