Recent killings in Hyderabad have brought attention to knife and sickle-based targeted attacks. While investigators rely on CCTV footage and forensic evidence, police say the cases seem unrelated and have motives ranging from vehicle theft to personal rivalry.
Hyderabad: A rise in violent crime, especially the increasing use of knives, sickles, and other weapons in targeted attacks, has come to light due to a number of murder cases that have been recorded in the city in recent weeks.
The most recent incidence was on Monday in Bandlaguda, Nagole, where Mohd Nayeem, a boisterous sheeter, was fatally hacked inside a wine shop permit room. Police believe the main motivation is past animosity with a childhood friend. CCTV footage showed the assailants pursuing and tracking Nayeem before using sickles and knives to attack him.
In a another instance, a four-person Maharashtra gang allegedly killed Rajshekhar, a taxi driver from Begumpet, after booking his car while pretending to be passengers. After seizing possession of the car and apparently planning to steal the taxi, the suspects killed him, according to the police. Later, his body was discovered at Patancheru, close to Rudraram.
Additionally, police have made some progress in their investigation into the murder of AIMIM employee Mohd Mehboob Ali in Vattepally. In relation to the case, seven individuals—including a minor—were taken into custody.
The alleged rape and murder of a 21-year-old nurse in Tukkuguda was another brutal crime. According to reports, forensic analysis connected Md. Sanaullah, the suspect, to the incident.
Separate motives, such as suspected personal rivalry and vehicle theft, are indicated by police investigations in the incidents.
Police said that rather than being killed in haphazard attacks, the majority of victims were allegedly specifically tracked or targeted. Additionally, some of the latest attacks are said to have involved the use of sickles and knives.
To reconstruct the crimes and identify suspects, investigators mostly rely on forensic evidence and surveillance footage.
According to senior police sources, there isn't any concrete proof that the recent deaths are related to one organized murder network at this time.
