At the Spring Street station in downtown Manhattan, New York, a woman of Indian descent and her friend, who was of Nepali-American descent, each lost their lives when they were struck by an approaching subway train.

Malaika Chitre, who was 24 years old and lived in Dayton, New Jersey, had recently graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science degree in May 2024. She was employed as an operations specialist at Acadia Pharmaceuticals until her graduation.
Navam Kaul, who is 24 years old and lives in Sayreville, New Jersey, earned his degree in business administration from Rutgers University (2020–2024) and was employed by Bloomberg as a financial data analyst.

A downtown local No. 4 subway train was involved in an incident that took place at approximately 3:14 AM on a Sunday.
According to the initial accounts, one person fell onto the tracks, and the other person went down to aid the person who fell. The remains of both fatalities were found and recovered from beneath the third and fourth cars of the train. Both victims passed away at the scene of the accident. There were around one hundred individuals on board the train who were able to safely relocate to the platform.
