Along with the 22-year-old BTech student who was discovered dead in his dorm room on September 18 after being caught allegedly copying during the exam, the Mumbai police crime branch has recorded the statements of many IIT Bombay students who took the midterm exam.

The statements of a number of the deceased's acquaintances and students have been recorded. A police officer involved with the case told Hindustan Times, seeking anonymity, "We asked them about the exam day and if the deceased student had told them about casteist slurs allegedly made by Professor Suryanarayana Doolla, as alleged in the First Information Report."

Because they do not have the phone's password, investigators said they were still having trouble unlocking the deceased student's iPhone.

"We are attempting to unlock the iPhone while collecting digital proof. The police officer who was previously mentioned stated, "We are also attempting to obtain some details from WhatsApp regarding the student's chats."

The parents of the dead student made their second recorded statement on Tuesday, according to investigators.

In the meantime, the dead student was seen sitting on the first bench and then leaving the exam room in CCTV footage of the September 18 exam that was shared by the media. He was discovered using a phone to copy during the exam, according to IIT Bombay authorities.

"The video will be used in the case, and we will perform a panchanama of it. The professor mentioned in the FIR is among the professors whose testimony we will shortly begin recording," the police official stated.
