The cab driver reportedly raped a 37-year-old private airline cabin crew member on Monday as she traveled to Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport, Shamshabad, to report for work. Her report led the RGIA outpost police to arrest the accused on Tuesday for rape. Remanded under judicial custody.
Police said the woman was in an office taxi from her home to the airport at 2 pm. Police arrested the 23-year-old driver from Shamshabad's Siddhanti area after using her information.
“We arrested the Shamshabad suspect. He admitted to the crime during interrogation, RGIA outpost inspector B Kiran Kumar said.
In order to answer nature's call, the driver allegedly detoured through a low-traffic area as the vehicle approached the airport.
Since he informed the woman he had to take a detour for nature, she didn't mind. He got out of the car near a new international school. Later, he unlocked the rear door and pushed himself on the woman inside the cab, stated an RGIA police official.
The accused escaped in the cab following the assault, leaving the victim alone while she sounded the alarm, police said. A colleague helped her call police, who took her to Bharosa Centre for counseling.
According to her testimony, the RGIA outpost police filed a complaint under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 64 (rape). Same-day medical examination for the woman.
