A Telangana Basketball Association official was charged under the Pocso Act for allegedly abusing and sexually harassing a 16-year-old basketball player during municipal competitions.
In July, the girl's family complained to RC Puram police station that the 30-year-old official had used harsh words against her throughout tournaments she played in over the last two years.
RC Puram police filed a case under section 75(1)(iv) and sections 11 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for sexual harassment and sexually coloured remarks based on the complaint. Madhapur police took up the case on July 24 and re-registered it under the same conditions.
“The complainant claimed the accused made obscene gestures and sexually charged remarks against the girl during tournaments. We notified the accused and recorded his statement legally, said Madhapur inspector KV Subba Rao.
Police say they are investigating and collecting further evidence. Accused will face legal punishment based on investigative results.
