Choudarapalli Sampath Raj, a governing party councillor in the Jangaon district, was arrested for reportedly trying to sexually abuse an old woman in Chagallu, the 9th ward of Station Ghanpur Municipality, while intoxicated.
The victim's son claims that late on Monday night, the accused councillor, who is allegedly an ally of MLA Kadiyam Srihari, stripped off his clothing, left them in his car, and stormed into the victim's home nude in an attempt at attack. Sampath Raj ran into the house's bathroom as the woman began yelling in terror. Her shouts woke her family members, who locked him inside the bathroom by latching the door from the outside.
Before notifying the local authorities, the victim's relatives vandalized the councillor's vehicle out of wrath over the occurrence. Sampath Raj was taken into arrest by the Station Ghanpur police after they arrived at the location after getting the information.
According to Station Ghanpur CI Venu, a case has been filed against the accused under Sections 333 (house-trespass committed with the preparation to cause hurt, assault) and 74 (criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and he has been remanded to judicial custody based on the victim's son's complaint. Local BRS leaders, meantime, have severely denounced the act and are calling on authorities to remove the accused from his position as a councillor.
