The departure of Dharmendra Pradhan over exam paper leaks has handed Pralhad Joshi additional control of the Ministry of Education.
In an evening statement, the President's office announced Joshi's appointment after Pradhan's departure.
The Union Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs is Joshi.
Pradhan, 57, resigned on the 35th day of Jantar Mantar protests due to exam paper leaks, citing the need to prevent anti-national forces from exploiting the situation.I have advocated for children, teachers, and educational change for over 40 years. In his resignation letter, he said a strong, inclusive, and imaginative education system is the foundation of a strong nation.
In a joint press conference with Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh hours after his resignation, CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka said they had ended the protest "in good faith" after the Centre promised to meet their demands.
Abhijeet Dipke, a Boston University graduate who returned to India to organize the document leak protest, demanded Pradhan's resignation.
Joshi claimed yesterday that the government was safeguarding students and accused "anti-social elements" of exploiting the CJP-led protest.
On Friday, Joshi informed reporters in Delhi that the Centre prioritized student welfare and continually improved the education system to ensure the future of young people. The Modi government has consistently supported students and youngsters. "We will take strict action against any irregularities or injustices that impact their future," said Joshi.Peaceful student protests are legal. Many say anti-social groups are trying to hijack the movement. A day before Pradhan resigned and the CJP canceled the protest, he advised students to be careful and not abuse their worries.
