The Telangana Police have filed a counter-affidavit with the Telangana High Court to contest the regular bail application of Bandi Sai Bhageerath, who faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Submitted by Inspector K Vijayvardhan of the Pet-Bashirabad Police Station under Criminal Petition No. 9986/2026, the state's filing details the progression of the case, which was initially registered as Crime No. 684/2026 under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) alongside Sections 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act.
The investigation intensified following a formal complaint by the victim’s mother and a subsequent medical examination conducted on May 9, 2026. Official educational records confirmed the victim's age as 17 years. In light of the physical evidence detailed in the medical report, investigators subsequently escalated the legal severity of the case by adding Section 5(l) read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, as well as Section 64(2)(m) of the BNS.
According to the police affidavit, the accused allegedly established a relationship with the minor, manipulating her emotionally to carry out repeated sexual assaults starting in 2025. Law enforcement officials documented that these offenses took place across multiple locations, specifically naming the Golf Edge apartments in Nanakramguda and Sriram Gardens, an area situated near the victim’s residence.
In their formal presentation to the High Court, the prosecution emphasized the gravity of the accusations and underscored that the victim's status as a minor remains a paramount consideration. The police argued that releasing the accused on bail could significantly disrupt the ongoing investigation and create a substantial risk of witness tampering or intimidation. On these grounds, the state has requested a total rejection of the bail plea, and the High Court is set to continue its review of the matter.
