The child slipped into a pit dug by the Greater Noida Authority for boring work and filled with rainwater.A 6-year-old boy drowned in a 15-foot-deep pit at a Greater Noida residential complex on Saturday, with residents alleging no barricades or warning signs.At the Kaladham Society, an artist colony, Avyaan Surya fell into the pit while playing cricket with pals. The Greater Noida Authority built a water-filled trench for digging.Residents rushed Surya, the son of Kendriya Vidyalaya art teacher Siwan Yadav, to a hospital, but he died.Pranjal Rajput, an eyewitness, told NDTV the incident happened around 7 pm.Rajput added, "A boy came running to me when I was washing my car, screaming that a child had fallen inside the pit," wondering how someone could drown in society.He ran to the place and found a security guard.Rajput stated the guard stripped and plunged into the hole."I called other residents, and about three to four people then jumped into the pit," he claimed.He stated they searched for the toddler for five minutes until his body touched a rescuer."He pulled him out of the water using his leg, and I helped take him out of the pit," he added."We pulled him from the pit and tried to revive him. Doctors pronounced him dead at the hospital "Rajput says.He stated they didn't know the facility included a deep hole.He said "it is a matter of grave negligence.""No Child Could've Swum Out"Siwan Yadav and his wife, an MCD nurse, left their home when they heard noises."When we went outside, people told us that a boy had fallen into the pit," he told NDTV while waiting for his son's remains at the mortuary."I noticed that one of my society friends had jumped into the pit to rescue the boy," he stated, adding that "no child could've swam out of that"."He broke down because it's unfair that the authorities lost his life," he added.The world was new to him. "He liked playing outside like other kids," he said."When I close my eyes, his face appears. We're distraught "Yadav added.Senior authorities were unaware of the pit's excavation, according to Greater Noida Authority General Manager AK Singh.He said the residents approached us about a water supply issue, and the authority approved a tube well."A neighboring place was to install it. "NDTV reported.He said the contractor didn't notify them that work began two days earlier."The contractor should have placed proper barricades, but he just used two bamboo barricades that were not sufficient," Singh added.He called it a "very tragic incident" due to the contractor's "grave negligence".Manoj Jain, a contractor, was detained, while Johnny, the Greater Noida Authority's supervisor, and Akash Rajput, its technical supervisor, were charged."Deeply Unfortunate" Kaladham Society general secretary Devendra Shukla said they were in negotiations with the authorities for a borewell because the residences had no water pressure."Our final talk was that it would be in the park rather than the parking lot. He called the incident "deeply unfortunate" and said there should have been barricading before digging the pit.
