Memphis, TN – Bereniz Cavazos, 31, formerly of Texas, has been sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for possessing heroin with intent to distribute. Kevin G. Ritz, United States Attorney, announced the sentence today. According to information presented in court, on October 6, 2021, investigators with the West Tennessee Drug Task Force stopped a vehicle Cavazos was occupying, along with her two minor children. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of approximately 5 kilograms of heroin. A federal grand jury returned a four-count indictment against Cavazos in October 2021. On May 17, 2022, Cavazos pled guilty to one count of possession
